Curiosity is the driving force behind my work. My practice spans a broad range of media, and my work has taken the form of installation, performance, video, photography, painting, drawing and combinations of these media. While embracing various mediums and artistic approaches, I found myself returning to the simplicity and immediacy of drawing.

Treating paper as a playground, this series of drawings is the result of my play with ink and water. I embrace natural phenomena such as gravity and fluidly, allowing them to dictate the process. When the water evaporates, the ink remains. The drips trace the influence of gravity, and the marks are a residue of the inkʼs movement. Responding to these organic markings, I balance the pictorial space with deliberate evidence of my hand. I strive to create works that are subtle and sparse, and to move the viewer towards introspection.

圍繞

好奇心一直是我創作的原動力,故使我的創作使用了很多的媒材。從裝置藝術、行動表演、影像記錄、繪畫、甚而複合的使用這些媒材。然而在經過了多次的實驗和思考之後,我發現又回到了最簡單又原始的方式-繪圖。我將紙片當成是個遊樂場,這系列就像是我和紙筆一起在其中玩樂,我使用自然現象如重力和流動性,讓它們參與了整個過程。當水分蒸發後,墨跡就會在紙上留下,水分隨著重力而在紙上滲流,而墨跡則標示了墨水的行徑。我謹慎的再用我的手,將畫面以更和諧的方式展現。我盡力用最細膩單純的方式,來引導觀者更進一步的審思。

The series captures water and/or wind in various manifestations, and draws attention to ever-present phenomena in our surroundings. There is no digital manipulation in this video. 蔡姈妏，台灣台南縣出生。在台灣完成中山醫學院 (中山醫學大學前身) 護理系學士學位後，在林鴻文工作室學習美術創作。1995年在家人和林鴻文 老師的支持鼓勵下到美國求學專駐美術創作。1997年在韋伯斯特大學 (Webster University) 取得藝術學士學位 (B.A. Bachalor of Art), 2000年在華盛頓大學 (Washington University) 獲得美術碩士學位 (M.F.A. Master of Fine Art.) 2003年夏天, 應邀到法國巴黎的國際藝術城市 (Cite International des Arts) 為進駐藝術家。蔡姈妏目前居住在美國緬因州波特蘭市 (Portland, Maine), 已在緬因藝術學校 (Maine College of Art) 擔 任專任 教授十年。

蔡姈妏的作品曾在亞洲、歐洲和美國各地展出。近年來，常與音樂和舞蹈創作者合作，進行多項跨領域創作。例如：喬治溫斯頓（George Winston，鋼琴獨奏家）、納森可拉斯科（Nathan Kolosko，吉他＆音樂創作者)、里歐那佛克（Lior Navok，以色列音樂創作者）和黛博拉溫斯柏（Deborah Wing–Sproul ，舞蹈和藝術創作家）。
